A South Korean lawyer has become the topic of a heated debate after he used profane remarks to criticize North Korean leaders on Saturday.
Jeon Won-chaek, who is well-known for his rightist stance, said that anyone who cannot insult North Korea’s authoritarian regime is pro-North Korean.
“Simply put, are Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il -- former leaders of North Korea -- gaesaeki? If you can say yes to the question, you’re not pro-North,” Jeon said on “Late Night Debate” show on KBS.
The word “gaesaeki,” which linguistically means young dog, is one of the Korean profanities most commonly used to degrade someone else.
Some netizens said that an iron-fisted dictatorship like North Korean regime deserved to be insulted, but others pointed out that it was wrong to use such language on television.

보수 논객 전원책 변호사가 TV토론 중 욕설을 해 논란이 되고 있다.
전 변호사는 26일 방송된 KBS ‘생방송 심야토론’에서 ‘종북세력의 국회입성 논란, 어떻게 볼 것인가’란 주제로 토론하던 도중 이와 같은 말을 한 것으로 알려졌다.

이에 진행자가 ‘방송용어를 써달라’고 지적하자 전 변호사는 김정일에 대한 욕은 타당하다고 주장했다.
여기에 일부 누리꾼들은 ‘속이 다 시원하다,’ ‘틀린 말은 아니다’, ‘괴뢰 정부의 수장인 김정일은 욕하면 안되느냐’라며 찬성의 뜻을 표했다.
반면 ‘상대가 (연쇄살인범) 설령 유영철이라고 쳐도 개새X라는 단어를 공중파에서 쓰면 되느냐’, ‘맞는 말이라도 TV에서 욕설을 쓰는 것은 상식밖이다’ 등 전 변호사에 대한 비난하는 목소리 역시 높았다.
한편 과거 전 변호사와 치열한 토론을 벌인 바 있는 진보논객 진중권 동양대학 교수는 전 변호사의 논리에 대해 '그분이 좀 아동스러운데가 있다'며 일축했다.
진 교수는 "김정일 XXX 얘기는 사상의 자유와 공인의 의무에 관한 담론을 그저 희화화시킬 뿐입니다. 그것도 대단히 폭력적인 방식으로..."라고 트위터에 썼다.
