Cristiano Ronaldo claims he’s better than Messi

Real Madrid’s superstar Cristiano Ronaldo boldly claimed in a CNN interview Thursday that he is better than his archrival Lionel Messi of Barcelona.

“Some people say I’m better, other people say it’s him…At the moment, I think it is me,” said Ronaldo.

Scoring a career-high 46 goals in the Spanish league and leading his team to the Spanish championship, the Portuguese soccer superstar finished arguably the best season of his career.

But many people still consider Messi the best soccer player alive.

The diminutive Argentinean went on a scoring rampage in the 2011-12 season, setting a world record for most goals ever scored in a season with eye-popping 72 goals.

Ronaldo said he is weary of the repeated comparison between him and Messi.

“You cannot compare a Ferrari with a Porsche because it’s a different engine. You cannot compare them. (Messi) does the best things for Barcelona, I do the best things for Madrid,” said Ronaldo.

However, Ronaldo says the competition helps him and his rival become better players.

“This is why Madrid and Barcelona are the best teams in the world because everyone pushes each other, not just me and Messi but other players,” Ronaldo said.

그러나 그는 이러한 경쟁이 그와 메시를 더 좋은 선수로 만들고 있다고 덧붙였다.

“이러한 점(경쟁)이 마드리드와 바르셀로나를 세계 최고의 팀으로 만드는 겁니다. 모두가 서로를 몰아세우기 때문이죠. 저와 메시 뿐만 아니라 다른 선수들도요,”라고 호날두는 말했다.
