JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) -- Indonesia's president has urged North Korea to keep communication channels open to prevent misunderstandings with other countries.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono discussed tensions on the Korean peninsula Tuesday with Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of North Korea's parliament.

Kim is traveling in the region, apparently to drum up outside investment.

His visit follows new U.N. sanctions on North Korea for launching a long-range rocket in defiance of Security Council resolutions banning it from nuclear or ballistic missile activity.

Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said Kim told Yudhoyono that reports about the launch were unbalanced and had further marginalized his country.

He said Yudhoyono underlined the need for good communication to prevent misunderstandings.
