Issues of global health and development are to be discussed at a TED event in Seoul this Saturday entitled “The Big Picture.”

The TEDxItaewonChange will link to the global TEDxChange 2012 program, co-organized by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It will focus on global health and development in countries including North Korea.

The event will combine local live speakers and artists with talks streamed by video as one of many TEDxChange events happening around the globe from April 5-14. The international program aims to expand upon ideas brought up at TEDxChange 2010.

Saturday’s event in Itaewon will be conducted in English and aims to explore issues including why society should continue to invest in development.

ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center program manager, Juhern Kim and consultant on city design JT Singh will talk at the event. The other speakers are North Korean defector Lee Hyeon-seo and Seoul National University graduate student Markus Bell, who is currently researching the defector community here.
The event to start at Seoul Global Culture and Tourism Center at 1 p.m. is limited to 60 attendees, who should pre-register at www.TEDxItaewon.com. Participation is 10,000 won.
