Chung raps Park over Saenuri management

A former leader of the ruling Saenuri Party on Sunday assailed Park Geun-hye, the party’s current chief, for doling out party tickets to her allies to tighten her grip on the party for her presidential bid later.

“Rep. Park Geun-hye should assume the full and unlimited responsibility for the election results, since she chose to run the party as if it were her personal enterprise,” Rep. Chung Mong-joon told reporters at the National Assembly in Seoul.

“We have ceased to think about ways to give hope to the general public. The Saenuri is now too much about one specific politician and ways to make the politician more powerful,” the sixth-term lawmaker said in a thinly veiled attack on Park.

Chung, 60, ran the Grand National Party, the precursor of Saenuri, as chief from 2009-2010. He is said to be harboring presidential ambitions.

The diatribe against Park, a prohibitive presidential candidate, came as the Saenuri wrapped up selecting candidates for the April 11 legislative election, except those for proportional representatives.

Park’s opponents in the party -- namely members of a faction loyal to President Lee Myung-bak -- claim that they were discriminated against in the nomination process. Many of pro-Lee politicians were denied party tickets and some deserted party membership in protest.

“(Park) is filling positions with figures she likes, after kicking out opponents and pressuring them not to defect, saying that a split would lead to collapse of all conservatives,” Chung said.

The politician also criticized the emergency leadership council, which Park formed with outside figures she handpicked.

“The emergency leadership council, as it acts as the chief decision-making body in the party, should have been formed with people who represent our party’s political identity,” he said.

“Outside figures were okay, but they should have joined the party by now.”

새누리당 정몽준 전 대표는 18일 4ㆍ11 총선 공 천을 강도 높게 비판하면서 박근혜 비상대책위원장의 무한책임론을 제기했다.

여권 잠룡 중 한 명인 정 전 대표는 이날 여의도 당사에서 기자회견을 갖고 "박 비대위원장이 쇄신과 국민 눈높이에 맞는 공천, 도덕성 공천, 친이(친이명박)ㆍ친박 (친박근혜)을 초월한 당내화합을 약속했다"면서 "그러나 비대위 활동이 3개월이 지 나고 공천이 마무리되는 이 시점에 새누리당의 공천은 국민의 기대에 부응하지 못했 다. 왜 비대위를 만들었고 무엇을 위해 쇄신했는지 납득하기 어렵다"고 말했다.

그는 또 "새누리당은 많은 국민에게 희망을 주기보다 특정인을 위해 당의 권력 을 사유화하는데 골몰하고 있다"면서 "`분열하면 모두 죽는다'는 식으로 압박을 가 하며 당내 비판세력을 제거하고 입맛에 맞는 인물들로 그 자리를 채우고 있다"고 비 판했다.

그는 "지금의 공천과정은 총선이야 어떻게 되든 대선후보 경선을 위해 자기(박

근혜) 사람을 심기 위한 것으로 보인다"면서 "자신에게 유리하면 원칙을 들먹이고 불리하면 침묵하는 것은 위선이고 거짓이다. 지금이라도 사당화 차원의 잘못된 공천 에 대해서는 박 비대위원장이 책임지고 시정해 줬으면 한다"고 촉구했다.

정 전 대표는 특히 "선거에서 질 경우 새누리당은 책임론의 후폭풍 속에 존폐의 기로에 놓이게 된다"면서 "박 비대위원장이 비대위를 쇄신하고, 또 개인이 아니라 당을 위해 새롭게 출발할 것을 강력히 촉구한다. 그렇지 않으면 당을 사유화하고 있 는 박 비대위원장은 총선결과에 무한책임을 져야 한다"고 강조했다.

그는 무한책임에 대해 "국민이 납득할 수 있는 책임을 져야 한다"고 말했다.

이는 한마디로 이번 공천을 시스템에 따른 국민 눈높이 공천이 아니라 `계파 공 천', `대선용 공천'으로 규정하고 총선 패배시 그에 상응하는 책임을 박 비대위원장 에게 묻겠다는 취지로 해석된다.

정 전 대표는 비대위에 대해 "비대위는 적어도 당의 정체성에 부합하는 사람으 로 구성돼야 한다"면서 "최고위원회를 대체하는 기구라면 그 구성원은 외부에서 왔 더라도 지금은 당원이 됐어야 한다. 만약 입당하지 않은 비대위원이 있다면 입당절 차를 밟거나 사퇴하는 것이 정치도의적으로 최소한의 필요한 조치"라고 밝혔다.

그는 이와 함께 비대위 독주 견제 및 당내 민주화를 위해 당 중진회의를 부활할 것을 촉구함과 동시에 여야 중진의원들이 모여 국가정보원 및 국방부로부터 북한 미 사일 발사 대책을 보고받고 대책을 논의할 것을 제안했다. (연합뉴스)
