Samsung Electronics Co. maintained its status as the top monitor supplier in global markets last year for the fifth straight year on strong demand for its high-end products, a report showed Sunday.

Shares of monitors supplied by Samsung Electronics accounted for 15.1 percent in global markets last year, according to a report by market research firm International Data Corporation.

In the fourth quarter, Samsung claimed 15.5 percent of global sales of its monitors to remain in the top spot for the 22nd consecutive quarter, it added.

The world’s largest maker of flat-screen TVs outperformed its rivals by a large margin last year by supplying high-end monitors such as light-emitting diode monitors and big-size monitors.

Samsung supplied 12 million units of LED models last year, clinching a 23.3 percent market share in the global market, it added.

Samsung Electronics has decided to spin off its liquid-crystal display business in a bid to beef up its competitiveness in the fast-changing display sector.

A new entity is widely expected to merge with Samsung Electronics’ organic light-emitting diode display-making unit Samsung Mobile Display, a move seen as focusing on displays for mobile devices.
