A delegation of senior South Korean officials will leave for the United States to discuss details of the U.S.-led sanctions against Iran, including how much Seoul will reduce its crude imports from Tehran, officials said Monday.

The delegation, led by Lee Baek-soon, director-general of the foreign ministry's North America bureau, will depart for Washington on Tuesday for a four-day visit, the ministry said in a statement.

South Korea has expressed support for the U.S. decision to impose tougher sanctions on Iran to punish its nuclear ambitions, but has yet to finalize its plan of action, as it is working to minimize its own economic fallout.

Iranian crude oil accounts for some 10 percent of South Korea's total crude imports. (Yonhap News)
