Teens force juniors into street vending, extort W10m

Two teenagers forced 12 younger children to sell sweet potatoes on the street and extorted the profits worth 9.4 million won ($8,300), police said Thursday.

Police in the southern city of Gimhae requested an arrest warrant for one of the suspects, an 18-year-old high-school student surnamed Lee, and booked an accomplice named Kim without detention.

Lee and Kim allegedly coerced their school juniors to work as street vendors from November to January.

The victims had to sell roasted sweet potatoes until 3 a.m. and meet the quota of 150,000 won per day, police said.

피해 학생들은 하루 상납금 15만원을 맞추기 위해 새벽 2~3시까지 술집, 식당 등 유흥가를 돌아다니며 '군고구마 앵벌이'를 했다고 경찰에 진술했다. (연합뉴스)
