The Northeast Asian History Foundation, a state-run history research institution, announced on Monday that it will build a national database on Korea’s early kingdoms as well as Dokdo and have it available online by November.

According to the foundation the database will feature Korea’s ancient history as well as Dokdo, the rocky islets in the East Sea that the Japanese claim are part of their territory. 

The database’s Dokdo section will include different types of maps of the islets and the East Sea, as well as research reports on Japan-Korea sea borders during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897), based on historical records from the period.

In terms of the ancient history of Korea, the database will feature history and cultural relics of Goguryeo (37 B.C.-668 A.D.) and Balhae (698-926). Remains of tombs and castle from the two ancient kingdoms will be made available in 3-D illustrations, the foundation said.

Once completed, the database will be available online at the foundation’s website for history education at http://contents.nahf.or.kr.
