Actors are being sought to perform in a play in Seoul to help end violence against women.

Auditions to find the cast for a production of “The Vagina Monologues” are to be held on Feb. 4 and 5 at Club Moonlight in Itaewon.

The production of Eve Ensler’s award-winning script will be staged as part of Korea’s participation in international V-Day events.

The annual celebration, now in its 14th year, aims to publicize the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sex slavery.

Ensler interviewed more than 200 women to write the piece which celebrates women’s sexuality and strength. The play has become an international hit, giving voice to experiences and feelings infrequently exposed in public.

“Seoul Players are looking for actresses of all ages, ethnicity, shape and experience,” said Seoul Players member Barri Tsavaris.

“Strong voices, comic timing, compassion, an open mind and fearlessness are key for these roles.”

Seoul Players and Pennyfield Productions are to stage the show on weekends from May 4-12. They will donate around 10 percent of ticket sales directly to V-Day and divide the rest of the takings between the House of Sharing and a third good cause that is yet to be selected.

Seoul Players is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based English-language theater group that first started in 2001.

Auditions will consist of cold readings and will be held on Feb. 4 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and on Feb. 5 from 2-5 p.m. Rehearsals shall begin in late February.
