Booyoung Group said Sunday it hosted a graduation ceremony for Sri Lankan primary school students last week as part of its social contribution activities.

The construction-focused conglomerate said the South Asian country’s education ministry suggested that it hold the ceremony on Dec. 2 in the capital city of Colombo in recognition of its donation of 3,000 digital pianos and 30,000 blackboards last year.

Later in the day, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse invited the Korean company’s chairman, Lee Joong-keun, to discuss business cooperation between the two countries, officials noted.

The event was the latest in a series of social responsibility campaigns by the firm around the world.

Booyoung also said it held a similar graduation ceremony last month in East Timor, one of Asia’s developing countries.

In October, it clinched a deal with the U.N.-Habitat to provide $3 million over the next decade to spur urban development in Africa.

The company said it has built free education and welfare facilities for children at home and abroad, including more than 600 primary schools in 14 countries such as Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.
