Foreign tourists in Seoul have sent more than 15,000 postcards to friends and family for free over the past four months, via a service provided by the city, the municipal government said Thursday.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government launched the “welcome postcard” service in June as part of a campaign to boost tourism.

Since then foreign visitors have sent more than 1,000 cards overseas per week on average, the city government said.

Free postcards show the capital city’s major tourist attractions, including Korea’s main royal palace Gyeongbokgung, traditional houses known as hanok, a fortress, popular shopping scenes and festivals.

The service is available at seven locations, including Incheon International Airport and the presidential office Blue House and the tourism information centers most visited by foreigners.

Seoul city will continue to offer the free postcard service next year and further promote it through online advertisements, officials said. (Yonhap News)
