The Korea Nuclear Energy Promotion Agency will hold a seminar to raise awareness of nuclear power on Friday at the National Assembly, KONEPA officials said Wednesday.

A series of events hosted by KONEPA including Friday’s seminar and workshops have been taking place to ease public anxiety after the Japanese nuclear disaster began in March.

Co-hosted by the French Atomic Forum, which organizes issues related to nuclear energy and safety to the members in Europe, the meeting will be attended by around 100 researchers and government officials from related fields.

The KONEPA officials said that the seminar will focus on the change of nuclear power policies and ways to obtain greater public acceptance.

At the event, two chairmen from KONEPA and FAF ― Rhee Jae-hwan and Philippe Garderet ― are expected to give opening speeches to commemorate the cooperation between the two parties.

Rhee and Garderet already met in March when signing a memorandum of understanding on the promotion of nuclear safety.

For the seminar, government authorities and researchers prepared agendas on new approaches toward nuclear promotion, sustainable development and risk management, the officials noted.

KONEPA has worked on promoting nuclear energy since its establishment in 1992. Its latest move came in early October, when holding the International Atomic Energy Agency’s workshop in Seoul.
