Grease lightning: thieves nab Travolta's wheels

Thieves stole John Travolta's vintage Mercedes-Benz while he was gone for only minutes -- visiting a Jaguar dealership -- police said.

The "Grease" and "Pulp Fiction" star left his vintage Mercedes-Benz 280SL parked in a residential district in Santa Monica on Sunday, said Sergeant Richard Lewis.

But when he returned from the nearby car dealership the sports car was gone.

"He parked the car in a residential street, and went to a nearby auto dealers for about 10 minutes, Lewis told AFP, saying he did not know if the thief or thieves followed Travolta or just chanced on the car.

Travolta estimated the car's value at $35,000 dollars, he said, while adding: "It is my understanding that it could be worth more" because it was a vintage model.

Travolta's spokesman said the star had no comment on the theft.

존 트라볼타, 벤츠 스포츠카 도둑맞아



(로스앤젤레스=연합뉴스) 권 훈 특파원= 청춘 스타에서 성격파 배우로 변신하며 꾸준하게 인기를 모으고 있는 할리우드 스타 존 트라볼타가 아끼던 스포츠카를 도난당했다.

19일(현지시간) 미국 로스앤젤레스 산타모니카 경찰서에 따르면 트라볼타는  일요일인 전날 오후 4시께 메르세데스 벤츠 280-SL 스포츠카를 도난당했고 신고했다.

트라볼타는 산타모니카 재규어 자동차 판매장 주차장에 차를 세워놓고 일을 본 후 10분 뒤 돌아왔더니 스포츠카가 없어졌다고 말했다.

경찰은 자동차 열쇠를 트라볼타가 갖고 있었고 불과 10분 만에 차를 몰고 달아난 점으로 미뤄 고급 자동차 전문 절도범의 소행으로 보고 있다.

트라볼타가 잃어버린 스포츠카는 3만5천달러 짜리지만 1970년에 생산된 빈티지모델이라서 실제는 10만달러가 훨씬 넘는 것으로 알려졌다.
