Soon, small portable devices such as cell phones and MP3 playerss could be charged just by having a quick walk.

Tom Krupenkin and Ashley Taylor, mechanical engineers at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, are currently working on special shoes called “Instep Nanopower,” that could produce up to 10 watts of electricity, CNN reported. That is enough power to charge even a small laptop, it added.

“Humans, generally speaking, are very powerful energy-producing machines,” Krupenkin says.

“While sprinting, a person can produce as much as a kilowatt of power. In your feet, you would have a mobile electronic unit with you that is always ready.”
