Forget family feuds -- Gwangju in-laws team up for theft

Mothers of a husband and wife don’t typically get along, but two in Gwangju appear thick as thieves after they were arrested for theft.

The surnamed Baek and Ahn are accused of stealing money and valuables from a clothing shop while pretending to be customers on Aug. 11.

They are also suspected of stealing 700,000 won ($642) in cash and a wallet from another clothing store in Jiwon-dong, Gwangju.

The plot involved one person distracting the worker by looking around the store, while the other stole money and valuables.

Gwangju Eastern District Police arrested them after analyzing DNA from the store’s glasses which were reportedly used by the suspects during the alleged thefts.

광주 동부경찰서는 11일 옷가게에 손님을 가장하고 들어가 금품을 훔친 혐의(특수절도)로 백모(59ㆍ여)씨와 안모(57.여) 등 2명을 입건, 조사하고 있다.

백씨 등은 지난 6월 2일 오후 4시께 광주 동구 지원동 한 옷가게에 들어가 계산대 서랍 아래에 있던 가방에서 현금 70만원과 지갑을 훔친 혐의를 받고 있다.

안사돈 사이인 이들은 한 사람이 물건을 고르는 척하면서 종업원의 시선을 끄는 사이 다른 사람이 금품을 훔치기로 모의한 것으로 알려졌다.

경찰은 “용의자가 범행 도중 물을 마셨다”는 종업원의 진술을 토대로 물잔의 유전자 감정을 의뢰해 백씨 등을 검거했다. (연합뉴스)
