Malaysia-bound Nigerian drug trafficker dies aboard plane

LAGOS(AFP) - A Malaysia-bound Nigerian drug smuggler died aboard an aircraft, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in India, the anti-drug agency said Saturday.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said 25-year-old Chilaka Ogbonna Emmanuel was flying from Lagos on Tuesday for Malaysia via Doha when the incident occurred.

"His sudden death arising from drug ingestion forced the pilot to make an emergency landing in India where he was confirmed dead in a hospital," it said.

"A post mortem conducted revealed that he had ingested narcotics," the agency said, without disclosing the type of narcotics and quantity.

The NDLEA said it has launched an investigation into the incident.

뱃속에 마약을 숨겨 말레이시아로 가기 위해 여객기에 탑 승한 나이지리아 청년이 기내에서 사망하는 바람에 조종사가 인도에 비상 착륙을 해 야 했다고 나이지리아 마약단속청이 6일(현지시각) 밝혔다,

마약단속청에 따르면 사고 당시 칠라카 오그보나 임마누엘이란 이 청년(25)은 지난 4일 나이지리아 라고스를 출발, 도하를 거쳐 말레이시아로 향하던 항공기에 탑 승하고 있었다.

임마누엘이 기내에서 급사하자 이 여객기는 인도에 비상 착륙해 문제의 청년을 병원에 급히 이송했다. 하지만 그는 이미 사망한 것으로 확인됐다.

부검 결과 이 청년의 사인은 마약을 삼켰기 때문으로 밝혀졌으나, 마약의  종류 와 양이 얼마인지는 아직 알려지지 않았다.
