A fake Ikea store is operating in Kunming, China, where stores selling Apple counterfeits were recently detected, according to the Netherlands online newspaper nu.nl.
The shop is named “11 Furniture,” which sounds similar to “Ikea” in Chinese. The interior and exterior design of the building featuring blue and yellow colors follows exactly that of the iconic stores of the Swedish furniture giant.
Chinese law prohibits firms from copying the “look and feel” of other brands’ stores. But Chinese businesses often take advantage of the loopholes in its enforcement, resulting in rampant intellectual property theft.
“The problems often arise from the fact that the damages are often quite low and the Chinese courts do not have a lot of power to make sure their own judgments are enforced,” said Dan Harris, a lawyer with Harris & Moure.
The “fake” trend in China has extended as far as copying the provided services, feeling and design of the store.

서양 요리가 아닌 중국식 메뉴라는 점만 다르다. 또 이케아처럼 납작한 상자에 조립용 가구 부속들을 포장해 판매하는 것이 아니라 대부분 완성품을 판다. 공간배치와 디자인도 진짜 이케아 매장에 비해선 어설픈 구석들이 있다.
그러나 전체적으로는 소비자들이 마치 이케아 매장에 있는 것으로 착각할 수 있을 정도다. 중국에는 베이징과 상하이 등에 9개의 이케아 매장이 있으나 쿤밍에는 없다.
중국 전역에서 오래 전부터 가짜가 판쳐왔고 외국 유명 상품의 짝퉁도 흔했다. 그러나 물건 만이 아니라 업체 매장과 서비스 전체를 진짜처럼 모방한 짝퉁 점포가 최근 새로운 흐름이 되고 있다. (연합뉴스)
