Electronic microchips added to hotel towels to ban snatching
An American linen company has introduced new towels and robes equipped with electronic chips for hotels in order to prevent guests from taking them home.
Linen Tracking Technology, a firm based in Miami, launched the new products attached with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags under association with Fluensee, another technology firm.
About 5 to 20 percents of linens at hotel rooms are likely to be lost, according to William Serbin, the company‘s executive vice president
To prevent such losses, RFID tags are sewn to towels, which can be detected by sensors within a 1.8-meter range. This way it is possible to know whether towels are removed from closets.
Such linens are also bendable and washable like any other towel, and only cost about a dollar more each.
