Foreign objects found in sealed soju

A man found foreign objects in a sealed bottle of soju on Sunday.

The 48-year-old office worker said he found three toothpicks, a cigarette butt, a thread and vinyl material inside the sprit which he bought at a shop near his home in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province.

The distilled alcohol was produced by Muhak Co. based in the southeastern province.

The normally transparent bottle had turned dark brown due to the alien materials, he said.

It was marked as being shipped on July 20.

“I notified the company of my finding but the company did not responded in a responsibly way,” he was quoted as saying.

“I will keep it until the company CEO comes to me and apologizes.”

The company said it had begun investigating the incident, but said it suspects someone may have inserted the items intentionally. Its products undergo strict examination by workers and electronic devices, the company added.

소주병안에 담배꽁초, 이쑤시개가

뚜껑을 따지 않은 소주병 안에서 담배꽁초 등 이물질들이 발견됐다.

25일 경남 창원시 경화동에 사는 김모(49)씨에 따르면 24일 오전 10시께 회사 야간 근무를 마치고 귀가하던 중 집 근처 가게에서 소주 1병을 구입했는데 병 안에 이물질들이 들어있었다.

문제의 소주는 경남에 본사를 둔 ㈜무학이 생산한 것으로 이쑤시개 3개와 담배꽁초, 실과 비닐 등이 들어있었다.

특히 담배꽁초가로 인해 맑은 색을 띠어야 할 병안의 내용물은 짙은 암갈색으로 변해 있었다.

소주병 두껑에는 생산일자가 이달 20일로 찍혀 있다.

김씨는 “지난 25년간 이 회사 제품만을 먹어 온 소비자로서 안타까워 회사 측에 알렸으나 태도가 무성의해 회사대표가 직접 찾아와 사과할 때까지 이 병을 그대로 보관하겠다”고 말했다.

회사 관계자는 “직원 6명이 육안 검사를 하고, 전자 검병기 등 첨단 설비가 있는 상황에서 이물질이 들어간 것에 대해 도저히 이해가 안된다”며 “외부인이 이물질을 넣을 수도 있다는 점을 배제하지 않고 생산현장의 폐쇄회로(CC)TV를 면밀히 분석하는 등 다각도로 원인을 찾고 있다”고 말했다.
