Game addict dies at home

An Internet game addict died at home in Incheon on Saturday.

The 20-year-old man had stayed at home playing games almost all day long for the past three years after graduating from high school, according to his brother who found him dead at 6:20 p.m.

The man has not eaten properly for the past two months, his brother told police. He was often short of breath but refused to go to hospital. He suffered from depression and showed symptoms of social phobia.

Police have asked for a postmortem to determine the cause of his death.

게임중독 20대 사망.. 3년간 게임만

인터넷 게임에 빠져 집 밖에 나오지 않던 20대가 집 안에서 숨진 채 발견돼 경찰이 사망원인 조사에 나섰다.

25일 인천 남동경찰서에 따르면 지난 23일 오후 6시20분께 남동구 간석동의 한 빌라 방에서 A(21)씨가 숨져 있는 것을 A씨의 동생이 발견해 경찰에 신고했다.

A씨는 고등학교 졸업 후 3년간 집 밖에 나가지 않고 하루종일 인터넷 게임만 해 오다 2개월 전부터는 식사도 제대로 하지 않고 숨이 가빠지는 증세까지 있었다고 경 찰은 전했다.

경찰 관계자는 “A씨가 병원에 가기를 거부했다”며 “우울증과 대인기피증도 있었 던 것으로 알고 있다”고 말했다.

경찰은 국립과학수사연구원에 시신 부검을 의뢰해 정확한 사망원인을 조사 중이다. (연합뉴스)
