Glasses tell what others are thinking

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab have come up with "social x-ray specs" that can interpret others’ facial expressions, according to reports.

The creator of the glasses, Rosalind Picard said that they can identify human facial expressions such as thinking, agreeing, concentrating, interest and disagreement. This is made possible with the help of a built-in camera, the size of a grain of rice, that monitors facial expressions and compares them to other known facial expressions.

After analyzing the expression, the glasses will display assess the person’s feelings in one of the three colors, red, yellow and green. Then users will be given, through an earpiece, a summary of the person they are talking to is expressing.

The eyewear was initially aimed towards autistic patients who have difficulty socializing. But the media lab is attempting to develop one for a broader use. The item is only accurate 64 percent of the time but is expected to improve with more tests.

이 안경은 원래 의사 소통 및 사람과의 관계를 어려워하는 자폐증 환자들을 위해 만들어졌지만 MIT에서 이를 다양한 상황에서 사용하기 위해 개발 중이라고 말했다. 아직까지는 성공률이 64퍼센트 밖에 안되지만 지속된 실험으로 점차적으로 확률을 늘릴 것이라고 전했다.
