Chinese 13 years of runway murderer caught after appearing on TV

A Chinese murderer was caught after 13 years as the man in his forties appeared on a television dating program only to reveal his real identity and past crime.
The man surnamed Wu, was finally arrested after having committed a murder during a fight at a pub in 1998, and running from the Chinese police for 13 years, the People’s Daily reported.
Wu changed his name to Liu Hao and lived with a new identity, successfully hiding from the search of police. He became a well known dancer, teaching at a dance hall of Shenyang, Liaoning Province.
However, he was finally arrested after taking part in a popular dating program last November on Heilongjiang Province Satellite television.
His fairly attractive appearance along with his talent for dancing and singing, saw him paired up with a woman in the program, drawing more attention.
However, a female viewer reported to the police that he was responsible for the murder which took place 13 years ago in Jilin City.
Wu had a 7-year-old son at the time of the crime but completely severed contact with his family, causing the child to believe his father was dead, Chinese police department stated.
“I wanted to have a spouse and be more famous by appearing on TV to live a completely new life. Had I not impulsively murdered the person, I could have been a popular celebrity,” regretted Wu, when investigated.

이름을 류하오(劉浩)로 바꾸고 공안의 끈질긴 추적을 따돌리며 랴오닝(遼寧)성 선양(瀋陽)의 무도장에서 제법 잘 나가는 ‘춤 선생’으로 자리를 잡은 우씨가 꼬리를 잡힌 것은 지난해 11월 헤이룽장(黑龍江)성 위성TV의 맞선 프로그램에 출연하면서다.
인기리에 방영되던 이 프로그램에서 훤칠한 외모에 능숙한 춤과 노래 실력을 뽐내 인기를 끈 그는 한 여성과 짝을 맺어 화제가 됐다.
그러나 이 프로그램을 시청한 한 여성이 그가 13년 전 지린에서 발생했던 살인 사건의 범인이라고 제보했고 수사에 나선 공안당국은 보강 수사를 거쳐 최근 그를 검거했다.
살인 사건 당시 7살 된 아들까지 두었던 우씨는 지금까지 가족과 연락을 끊어 그의 아들은 아버지가 사망한 것으로 믿고 있었다고 공안국 관계자가 전했다.
우씨는 “완전히 새로운 삶을 살고자 배우자를 선택하고 지명도도 높이기 위해 TV에 출연했던 것”이라며 “당시 충동적으로 사람을 해치지만 않았더라도 유명 연예인이 됐을 수도 있었을 텐데 몹시 후회스럽다”고 말했다.
