A 4-month-old toddler in Missouri, U.S., lost seven of his fingers to a hungry pet ferret while his parents were out.
Doctors had to amputate his fingers as they were in critical condition, leaving only two thumbs and a pinky.
The parents, who allegedly claimed that they woke up after hearing their child screaming, have been charged with first-degree child endangerment.
Although Ryan Waldo and Carrie Waldo maintained that they were home at the time of the event, investigators discovered they had sent text messages from different locations.
Suspicion also rose as the Waldos relocated many items in their home on the day of the accident. They told police that the ferret had never attacked anyone, but it has also been claimed that it attacked the child twice.
The child and his sibling are currently in the custody of their grandmother.
