202 member federations of the IAAF to participate in the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011

The combined 202 members of the International Association of Athletics Federations will participate in the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011, the largest global sports event this year scheduled to kick off on August 27.
According to Daegu city and the Organizing Committee for the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011, the committee had received participation applications for the championships via the IAAF online registration system in accordance with the rules of the World Championships Daegu 2011 on participant qualification. The rules were set by the IAAF’s Execution Committee, which was held in Monaco in Nov. of last year.
Application registration was completed on April 26. Of the total 212 member countries, 202 have confirmed their participation. The figure is larger than the number of U.N. members at 192.
In addition, with a combined 3,822 delegates, including 2,452 athletes and 1,370 officials, registering their participation, the championships will be the largest global sporting event to be held this year said officials at the Daegu city office. A combined 118 Korean athletes, the country’s largest delegation in history, will compete at the championships.
The amounts for the cash prizes for winners were also set.
The forty-seven sports of the championships and the World Marathon Cup will award a combined 7,336,000 U.S. dollars in prize money. In addition, Toyota, an official sponsor for women’s sports, and TDK for men’s sports will give 10,000 dollars to an athlete if he or she makes a new world record.
