Samsung C&T Corp.’s executive vice president Park Pil was appointed as the head of Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Kun-hee’s assistant team on May 1.

Operating under the chief of Samsung’s corporate strategy office, the head of the chairman’s assistance team is widely considered to be an important step on the way to key posts within Samsung Group.

Although the team acts as the chairman’s assistance, the seat of the team leader has been filled by those going on to hold much more prominent posts in the past.

Head of the corporate strategy office vice chairman Kim Soon-taek held the office in 1991, and head of Samsung Corporate Citizenship Lee Chang-yeol also held the post. The team’s new leader has already held key posts at Samsung C&T.

Park graduated from the Seoul National University and began his career in Samsung Group at Samsung C&T in 1984.

Since then, Park spent about four years in the chairman’s assistance team, and served as the chiefs of Samsung C&T’s offices in Singapore and Taipei. In 2007, he was appointed as the global team chief at Samsung Human Resources Development Center, and is currently an executive vice president for Samsung C&T’s trading arm.
