ROME (AFP) - Prosecutors on Friday requested a trial for three of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's friends on pimping charges linked to the Italian leader's own trial for having sex with an underage prostitute.
The request "was sent today to the judge" on the prostitution charges, the main prosecutor's office in Milan said in a statement.
The charges relate to alleged crimes committed between 2009 and 2011.
The three suspects are: Nicole Minetti, a former showgirl and local councillor for Berlusconi's ruling party, Emilio Fede, an anchorman on one of the premier's television channels, and Lele Mora, a modelling agent.
Prosecutors said they suspect that the three first established contact with Karima El Mahroug when she was 16 at a beauty contest in Sicily.
Moroccan-born Mahroug later took on the stage name of "Ruby the Heart Stealer" and is at the centre of the case against Berlusconi.
Prosecutors say she was paid 13 times between February and May 2010 to have sex with Berlusconi.
They accused the prime minister's three friends of hiring a total of 33 young women to attend raunchy parties at his residence.

이탈리아 밀라노 검찰은 6일 실비오 베를루스코니 총리의 미성년자 성매매 사건과 관련, 채홍사 등의 역할을 한 측근 3명의 기소를 법원에 요청했다.
이탈리아 뉴스통신 안사(ANSA)에 따르면, 검찰이 기소 요청을 한 사람은 쇼걸 출신으로 베를루스코니의 전직 치아 위생관리사를 지낸 니콜레 미네티 롬바르디 지방의원, 총리 소유의 TV에서 뉴스앵커로 활동하고 있는 에밀리오 페데, 연예기획 업계의 거물인 렐레 모라 등 3명이다.
이들은 베를루스코니의 섹스 파티에 젊은 여성들을 공급하는 역할을 한 혐의를 받고 있다.
검찰에 따르면 미성년자 1명을 포함한 33명의 젊은 여성들이 지난 2009년 초부터 올해 1월까지 베를루스코니가 마련한 파티에서 매춘에 관련됐다.
성매매 사건의 초점은 지난해 17살로 미성년자이던 모로코 출신 나이트클럽 댄서 카리마 엘 마루그(예명 루비)가 베를루스코니와 밀라노 외곽 별장에서 13차례 함께 밤을 보냈다는 의혹이다.
뉴스 앵커인 페데는 2009년 9월 시칠리아 타오르미나에서 열린 미인 선발대회에서 루비를 처음 만났으며, 이후 베를루스코니의 파티에 루비를 데려갔다고 검찰은 밝혔다.
파티에 참석한 여성들은 대부분 연예계 대부인 모라의 젊은 탤런트 후보군에 있었으며, 미네티는 이들을 관리한 혐의를 받고 있다.
미네티와 페데, 모라 등 세 사람은 베를루스코니와 마찬가지로 파티에서 범법행위는 일어나지 않았다며 혐의를 부인하고 있다.
검찰은 베를루스코니 총리에 대해서는 신속재판 절차를 요청했기 때문에 총리와 측근 3명의 재판은 별도로 진행될 예정이다.
