North Korean ruler Kim Jong-il’s heir apparent has been named as one of the 100 most influential persons in the world by the TIME magazine.

Announcing the TIME 100 list on Thursday, the magazine described Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader’s third son, as a “tyrant in waiting.”

The report said he has been picked because he would become “an absolute ruler of his impoverished, nuclear-tipped nation.” It added: “He may not be known, he will be feared.”

Rain, a popular South Korean actor and singer, has also been included for a third year. Rain first made the list in 2006.

Rain took the lead in the TIME 100 online poll with 406,252 votes.

He is very happy to be listed in the TIME 100 and will attend the celebration to be held in New York on April 26, his agency said Thursday.

북한 김정일 국방위원장의 후계자인 김정은이 미국 시사주 간지 타임이 선정하는 '세계에서 가장 영향력 있는 인물 100인'(이하 타임 100)에 포함됐다.

타임은 21일 '타임 100'을 발표하면서 김정은에 대해 "몇 년 전까지만 해도 북한 사람들은 그에 관해 거의 알지 못했다"며 "그러나 그는 할아버지와 아버지의 뒤를 이어 가난하고 핵을 보유한 국가의 절대적 통치자로서 선정됐다"고 설명했다.

타임은 "김정은이 28살인지 29살인지 아무도 확실히 알지 못한다"며 "그에 대한 사진만 몇 장 돌고 있을 뿐"이라고 말했다.

앞서 김정일 국방위원장은 지난 2004년과 2005년 2년 연속 '타임 100'에 선정된 바 있다.

2006년에 이어 올해 또다시 선정된 가수 비에 대해서는 "한국의 팝 스타에서 영화배우로 변신했다"면서 그가 온라인 투표에서 인상적인 영향력을 보였다고 소개했다. 비는 얼마 전 타임이 홈페이지에서 독자들을 상대로 실시한 온라인 투표에서 1위를 차지했다.
