NARA -- Momo the Chihuahua may appear to be too small to be a police dog, but a police dog he is -- and he now has the jacket to prove it.
Momo recently received the custom-made jacket, which he will wear during police events, on Saturday.
The 7-year-old passed a test in November to work part-time with the Nara prefectural police in search-and-rescue operations in disaster areas, among other duties.
The jacket was ordered by Momo’s owner, Keiko Matsuyoshi, 31, and delivered Saturday to their house in Sakurai, Nara Prefecture.
Yellow stitched characters on the 11.5-centimeter-long, 23.5-centimeter-wide navy blue velvet jacket read, “Shokutaku Keisatsuken” (Part-time police dog).
Police usually prepare such jackets for large police dogs, but Matsuyoshi had to have the jacket tailor-made for her tiny pet.
Looking at Momo wearing the jacket, Matsuyoshi said, “It really makes me feel Momo has become a police dog.” (The Yomiuri Shimbun, ANN member)
