At the Oscars, the night undoubtedly belonged to “The King’s Speech,” which won four Academy Awards, in best picture, director, actor and original screen play.

Accepting the award for best original screenplay, David Seidler said: “I would like to thank her majesty the queen for not putting me in the Tower of London for putting swear words in George VI’s mouth. And I accept this on behalf of all the stutterers throughout the world.”

“The King’s Speech” depicts King George VI of England (played by Colin Firth) overcoming his stammer with the support of a speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), and delivering a radio speech that unites his people at the outbreak of the Second World War.

It is said that the King’s speech inspired his people and united them before the war with the Nazis.
