The committee said Monday that it had chosen Lee as the winner of its 57th annual grand prize in recognition of his achievements that helped raise the sports status of Korea.

Lee took gold medals in the men’s 10-meter air pistol individual and team, and 50-meter pistol team events.

The nation’s amateur sports governing body also presented the first prizes, lesser than the grand prize, to Mo Tae-bum, 500-meter men’s speed-skating gold medalist in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, and Hwang Sun-ok, who swept four golds in women’s bowling in the 2010 Asian Games.
