Half of men say OK to their girlfriends cheating with other girls

Half of men would forgive their girlfriends for cheating on them -- as long as they did so with another woman, a U.S. study has found.

Researchers from the University of Texas, in Austin, quizzed 718 students on the subject of cheating.

Half the men surveyed said that they would forgive their girlfriends as long as the affair was with a woman. But only 22 percent of men told researchers they could forgive a partner for cheating with another man.

Conversely, women were more likely to break with a boyfriend who cheated on them with another man. Of the women asked, 79 percent said they would end a relationship if their partner cheated on them with a male. And 72 percent of women said they would break up with their partner if the affair was with another woman.

When students were asked about real-life experiences of cheating, men were more unlikely to forgive girlfriends if they cheated.

Researchers concluded that men were significantly more likely than women to have ended their relationships following their partner’s affair, according to the Metro newspaper which reported the study's findings.

반면 여자 대학생들은 ‘남자 친구가 다른 남자와 바람피면 용서하겠다’는 응답이 21%에 불과, 여자 대학생들은 남친이 동성과 바람을 피면 다른 여자와 부정을 저질렀을 때(28%)보다 더 용서하지 않는것으로 드러났다.

이처럼 남자들이 여친의 동성 연애 부정에 관대한 것에 대해 연구를 실시한 제이미 콘퍼는 “남성은 여자 친구가 동성과 바람을 피는 것을 향후 섹스 파트너를 추가하게되는 기회로 여기기 때문”이라고 풀이했다.

그는 또 파트너의 부정 행위에 대해 남여의 반응이 다른 것은 심리적으로 남성은 부성 본능에 대한 위협에, 여성은 버려지는 위협에 더 민감하게 반응하기 때문이라고 풀이했다.

즉, 남성은 여친이 다른 남자와 바람을 피면 향후 자신의 부성 지위가 위협받을것을 크게 우려하기때문에 바로 관계를 끝내는 경향이 강하다고 지적했다. (헤럴드 생생뉴스)
