GM Daewoo launches all-new Orlando in S. Korea

GM Daewoo Auto & Technology, the South Korean unit of General Motors Co., introduced Wednesday its new seven-seat, multi-purpose vehicle, the Chevrolet Orlando, in South Korea.

"We are carving out a new segment in the market with the Orlando," said Mike Arcamone, president and CEO of GM Daewoo, defining the vehicle as South Korea's first Active Life Vehicle (ALV).

   "The Orlando offers the ideal combination of comfort of a sedan and the versatility and space of a multi-purpose vehicle," he said at a ceremony, marking the launch of the new vehicle in Seoul.

   "The Orlando not only brings great value for money to modern families on the move, but also brings something fresh to the domestic market, a certain function with attitude, as we put it."

   The Chevrolet Orlando comes with a 16-valve, 2.0-liter DOHC diesel engine that generates maximum horsepower of 163 and maximum torque of 36.7 kilogram-meters, enabling it to meet most driving needs of urban families from city cruises to outdoor activities.

   The vehicle has an average fuel efficiency of 17.4 kilometers per liter for manual transmission and 14.0 km/l for automatic transmission.

   The three rows of seats in the Orlando are leveled in what the GM Daewoo president called a "theater-like style" to allow maximum front and side views of all occupants.

   For added stability and protection, the Chevrolet Orlando is built with 71 percent of its body constructed of high-strength steel.

   "There is something else our ALV offers, exceptional safety.

The Orlando's platform and expansive active safety features make it one of the safest vehicles," Arcamone said.

   Still, the vehicle's most attractive characteristic comes from its "outstanding value," he added.

   The vehicle comes in three different trims with a price range of 19 million won to 24 million won (US$17,200 to $21,700).

   "The new Orlando ALV will draw people to the Chevrolet brand," Arcamone said.

   GM Daewoo, currently in the process of changing its name to GM Korea Co., is set to launch eight new vehicles this year, starting with the Orlando and a compact sedan, the Chevrolet Aveo, next month.

   The company is also replacing all its existing products with the Chevrolet brand.

다목적차량(MPV) '올란도'가 9일 출시됐다.

    마이크 아카몬 GM대우 사장은 이날 서울 용산 전쟁기념관에서 열린 신차발표회 에서 "매력적인 스타일과 안정적인 승차감, 넓은 공간과 실용성을 모두 갖춘 신개념 차량"이라며 다음 달 2일부터 본격 시판에 들어간다고 밝혔다.

    올란도는 쉐보레의 준중형 크루즈의 아키텍처를 기반으로 개발됐으며, 기존 스 포츠유틸리티차량(SUV)과 승용, 미니밴의 장점을 융합한 신개념의 차량이라는 점에 서 GM대우는 액티브라이프차량(ALV)이라고 불렀다.

    차명은 디즈니월드 등 가족 테마파크와 쇼핑, 레저, 스포츠의 명소인 미국 플로 리다주의 올란도란 지명에서 따왔으며, 이는 운전자 자신은 물론 가족 모두에게 놀 라움과 신선함으로 잊지못할 경험을 선사한다는 의미라고 GM대우 측은 설명했다.

    SUV 스타일의 외관과 낮은 루프라인, 박스타입의 후면 디자인을 보여주고 있으 며, 앞뒤 바퀴 축간거리인 휠베이스가 2천760㎜에 달한다.

    성인 7명이 여유롭게 탈 수 있으며 1열부터 3열까지의 좌석을 극장식으로 설계 해 모두가 차량 전방 시야를 확보할 수 있도록 했다는 게 GM대우 측 설명이다.

    2천㏄ 첨단 가변 터보차저 커먼레일 디젤 엔진이 장착돼 최고출력 163마력(3천8 00rpm)에 최대토크 36.7㎏.m(1천750~2천750rpm)을 구현했고, 커먼레일 연료분사방식 은 흡·배기 밸브의 최적 개폐 시기를 조절해 효율을 높이고 배기가스를 줄였다.

    유로5 배기가스 기준을 만족시킨 이 엔진은 매연 여과장치를 장착했으며, 배기 가스 재순환 장치를 적용해 질소산화물과 미세먼지 입자 배출량도 감소시켰다.

    연비는 6단 수동변속기 장착 차량이 17.4㎞/ℓ, 6단 자동변속기 장착 차량이 14

.0㎞/ℓ이다.

    상부 차체와 차체 프레임이 일체형으로 설계돼 안정된 구조를 확보했고, 역동적 인 주행감과 탁월한 코너링, 정교한 핸들링을 구현했다고 GM대우는 설명했다.

    운전석과 동반석, 사이드, 보행자 보호 안전성 등 전 분야에서 별5개 수준의 최 고 안전성을 기준으로 개발됐고, 차체에 초고장력 강판을 71% 이상 적용해 충돌 보 호 능력을 보강했다. 운전석과 동반석, 사이드 에어백이 기본 장착됐다.

    차량 충격 시 자동 잠금 기능이 해제돼 구조를 쉽게 하는 충돌센서기술(CST)이 적용됐고, 불안정한 주행 상황에서도 차량을 안전하게 제어하기 최신 전자식 주행안 전 제어장치(ESC) 등의 차체제어 시스템이 장착됐다.

    가격은 부가세를 포함해 LS모델 일반형(수동변속기) 1천980만원, 고급형(자동변속기) 2천123만원, LT모델(〃) 2천305만원, LTZ모델 2천463만원(〃).
