A water saving plan for the Menindee Lakes, in the state's far west, lacked rigorous scientific evidence and failed to properly consult local residents, according to a new report. The project was aimed at reducing the amount of water lost to evaporation in the Murray Darling Basin, but scientists say it was misguided and poorly framed from the start.
