Pengsoo, the popular costumed penguin character from educational TV channel EBS, took the top place on local music charts with the recently released song “This is Pengsoo.”
The song, released at 9 a.m. Tuesday for local streaming charts such as Melon, Genie and Bugs, is part of Pengsoo’s first digital single album, titled “Billboard Project Vol. 1.” Pengsoo collaborated with rapper Tiger JK for the release. Hip-hop artists Bizzy, Bibi and Tiger JK all participated on the track.

All proceeds from the song sales will be donated to an environmental organization, commemorating World Penguin Day on April 25.
Pengsoo debuted in 2019 as part of EBS. The character claims to have swum all the way from the Antarctic Ocean to Korea. Since the character’s debut, Pengsoo has been creating waves for frankness and a cute disposition.
Pengsoo’s YouTube channel, Giant Peng TV has some 2.14 million subscribers as of Tuesday.
