The English Premier League’s Son Heung-min and a number of national team athletes are working with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to provide exercises that people can do at home.

The “Week of Sports,” which falls on the last week of April, will be marked online this year due to the spread of COVID-19.

In honor of the Week of Sports, Son Heung-min shared simple exercises to do at home using a soccer ball that can be viewed online at the National fitness Award (nfa.kspo.or.kr) and Korea Sports Promotion Foundation website (kspo.or.kr) along with the ministry and KSPO’s social media pages starting Wednesday.

Other national team athletes have also been posting at-home exericse routines online. Earlier in April, Olympic gold medal gymnast Yang Hak-seon along with Asian Games gold medal gymnast Yeo Seo-jung and other members of the national team uploaded a video of themselves doing the “national gymnastics” routine together, a set of stretches taught at schools in Korea. The video can be found at www.youtube.com/channel/UCXU3UhTVOX7w6NhQpzxEeJQ.

Both Yang and Yeo also instruct at-home workouts in a short video series titled “Workout at Home With National Team Athletes,” posted on the Korea Sports and Olympic Committee’s YouTube channel on April 13.

National team athletes were quarantined at the Jincheon National Training Center until March 27, following the announcement that this year’s Tokyo Olympics had been postponed.

Comedian Lee Seung-yoon, famous for his athleticism, was also featured on the channel, where he too displayed indoor exercises.

Other events of the Week of Sports undertaken by the Sports Ministry include an exercise video for disabled people that can be done with family or caretakers created in conjunction with the Korea Paralympic Committee. The video featuring former national Paralympic hockey team player Han Min-su and International Paralympic Committee member Hong Suk-man will be available starting Thursday on the KPC website at sports.koreanpc.kr

The ministry is also providing exercise videos for students that can be used at home or school free of charge. It is also holding a competition in which people can submit a video of themselves exercising indoors using everyday tools or with family. The aim of the competition is to encourage people to exercise at home to boost immunity. The submission deadline is May 17. More detail can be found at nfa.kspo.or.kr.
