S. Korea set to go for compound archery gold sweep

JAKARTA, (Yonhap) -- South Korea will go for a complete sweep of the gold medals in compound archery at the 18th Asian Games after its men's and women's teams reached their respective finals on Sunday.

The men's team of Choi Yong-hee, Kim Jong-ho and Hong Sung-ho defeated Malaysia 235-229 in the semifinals at GBK Archery Field in Jakarta.

The men will face India in Tuesday's final.

Compound team matches are determined on cumulative scoring, as opposed to the set system in recurve team events. Teams shoot 24 arrows in four "ends" of six arrows, and the team with the highest 24-arrow score wins the match.

Earlier on Sunday, the women's team of Choi Bo-min, Song Yun-soo and So Chae-won got past Iran 231-228 in their semifinals.

South Korea will also take on India in the final on Tuesday..

South Korea already has a mixed team of Kim Jong-ho and So Chae-won in the final scheduled for Monday against Chinese Taipei.

The compound discipline was added to the Asian Games for the first time in 2014, and South Korea won the women's team and individual gold. There are no individual events this time, with only men's, women's and mixed team events being contested.
