Daewoo Engineering & Construction is seeking to ramp up bids for nuclear reactor construction overseas to lay the groundwork for stable growth amid a change in leadership earlier in June.

Plans include bidding in tenders from Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine, the company said Wednesday.

These will come along with Daewoo E&C’s efforts to clinch orders from Libya’s reconstruction and development projects. 

Daewoo E&C is pinning hopes on its decadeslong experience in the field and its track record in reactor construction, the company said. The move targeting offshore bids will gain momentum since new Chief Executive Kim Hyung, with 33 years of experience in construction industry, took office on June 11 and vowed to improve the balance sheet of the company.

The builder has been involved in projects to build reactors in Korea, such as Wolsong-3 and 4, Shin Wolsong-1 and 2, as well as in foreign countries, such as Lungmen nuclear power plant in Taiwan.

In Jordan, Daewoo E&C won a contract for engineering, procurement and construction of the Jordan Research and Training Reactor in 2009.

Daewoo E&C has built petrochemistry facilities, power plants and chemical plants, as well as office buildings, hotels, medical facilities and exhibition centers.
