The Korea Customs Service is expected to diversify delivery channels of duty-free items bought by travelers, as part of measures to improve duty-free operations at airports, officials said Tuesday.

The customs office received a set of suggestions from its task force to review ways to make it easier for travelers to receive preordered goods at airports, along with ways to run duty-free businesses in a more transparent manner.

The team, comprising external experts as well as civilians, was launched in October last year with an aim to improve the overall operation of customs administration here.

As part of the move, operation guidelines for duty-free stores are to be stipulated under relevant laws or public notifications, while nonregular reviews of permits will be announced prior.

To ease crowded pick-up venues inside airports, the task force asked authorities to simplify the duty-free goods receiving process and diversify receiving channels.

“Based on the recommendations, we will thoroughly review and try to accept it, considering the reality,” said a Korea Customs Office official.

A finalized recommendation by the task force will be announced in October.
