GUNSAN, North Jeolla Province -- Police on Monday arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of starting a fire at a bar in North Jeolla Province in western South Korea that killed three customers and injured 30 others, all men.

The police believed that the man, one of the bar's regular customers, set the bar ablaze by lighting some inflammable materials around 9:50 p.m. Sunday. Many of the injured are from Gaeya Island off the city of Gunsan and the death toll could rise, as they are seriously injured.

The man, who was hiding at the house of an acquaintance about 500 meters away from the bar after the fire, was apprehended around 1:30 a.m. Monday.

According to investigative sources, the man said he started the fire out of anger after the bar's owner told him to pay 200,000 won (around $180) for drinks rather than the 100,000 won he thought was the appropriate price.

The suspect also sustained an injury and was taken to a hospital. Police are looking into further details surrounding the fire and plan to seek an arrest warrant for him. (Yonhap)
