Two South Korean football clubs were fined Wednesday over fan violence that occurred earlier this month.
The K League, operator of South Korea's pro football league, meted out a 7 million won ($6,290) fine for Incheon United and 5 million won fine for Jeonnam Dragons for the incident that happened at Gwangyang Football Stadium in Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province, on Nov. 5.
After the match ended in a 2-2 draw, two Incheon supporters invaded the pitch and rushed to the referee who had ejected two Incheon players for fouls. The supporters then assaulted a Jeonnam employee who was filming them with a cell phone. The two tried to erase the video after taking the employee's cell phone, but were stopped by police.
The K League said although Jeonnam are the victims of the incident, they are still responsible for not taking good care of security matters at their home stadium, while Incheon are punished for poorly managing their fans.
The K League added that the two Incheon supporters are banned from every K League stadium, while one separate Incheon supporter was also given the same penalty after he cursed at officials. (Yonhap)
