It marked the first inspection since Nov. 4 when the state media reported Kim's visit to a truck factory.

He conducted tours in economic fields in recent weeks in an apparent bid to show that the North Korean economy has not been severely affected by international sanctions.

In July and August, Kim engaged in no economic-related public events as the North seemed to be focusing on missile testing.

His visit came as North Korea refrained from provocative acts following its launch of a missile over Japan on Sept. 15. (Yonhap)
