The pollster attributed the high level of Moon's public support to his diplomatic achievements.

Late last month, Seoul and Beijing reached an agreement to put their ties back on the "right" track after nearly a year of diplomatic friction over the deployment of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system. China suspected that THAAD could undermine its security interests.

Just last week, Moon and his US counterpart Donald Trump reaffirmed the two countries' solid security alliance against North Korea's continuing provocations during the latter's two-day state visit here.

The survey put the approval rating for the ruling Democratic Party at 48.2 percent, down 3.5 percentage points from a week earlier. Public support for the main opposition Liberty Korea Party was tallied at 18.6 percent, up 1.8 percentage points.

The Justice Party garnered 5.8 percent support, while the Bareun Party and People's Party received 5.5 percent and 5.3 percent, respectively.

The survey of 2,533 voters was commissioned by local broadcaster CBS and had a margin of error of 1.9 percentage points with a 95-percent confidence level. (Yonhap)
