WASHINGTON -- US President Donald Trump's approval rating has hit a record low on his handling of North Korea and other issues, a new poll showed Sunday.

Thirty-eight percent of those polled said they approve of Trump's performance, down five percentage points from September, according to the joint survey by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal.

Fifty-eight percent of Americans said they disapprove of the president's work.

The poll was conducted on 900 adults from Oct. 23-26, amid criticism of his handling of a phone call to the widow of an American soldier who was recently killed in Niger, and an escalating feud with two senators from his own Republican Party.

Trump scored low points on his handling of North Korea (34 percent approval), his handling of the mass shooting in Las Vegas (33 percent) and his move against the nuclear deal with Iran (24 percent).

Still, 48 percent approved of the president's handling of the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, while 42 percent approved of his performance on the economy.

Trump's previous low in the same poll was 39 percent in May.

The new survey had an overall margin of error of 3.3 points. (Yonhap)
