TV personality Kangnam apologized for his recent remarks about Ghana made during a TV variety show. 

Sunday‘s episode of SBS’ “My Ugly Duckling” featured Kangnam and singer Tony An visiting the home of Sam Okyere, a celebrity in Korea who hails from Ghana. During the visit Kangnam asked Okyere questions about Ghana, such as “Do they have TVs in Ghana?” and “Do you guys have subways?” Kangnam’s remarks immediately sparked criticism among netizens who claimed that the Korean-Japanese celeb was extremely disrespectful, disparaging Okyere’s home country. 

On Tuesday evening, Kangnam took to Instagram to post a letter of apology. “I was too caught up in trying to be funny. I should have been more responsible with my words as a celebrity, I’m very sorry and grateful to those who criticized me and taught me a lesson. I’ll think and act more carefully in the future.”

He apologized to Kyungli of Nine Muses in the letter as well.

Asked during a recent web variety show in which the two appeared together whether there was a chance that the two could get romantic, Kangnam had jokingly said, “If asked to beat her, I could beat Kyungli until she dies.” The remark was met with heavy criticism by the public.
