The government said Sunday it will set up a committee comprised of experts to review President Moon Jae-in's industrial technology-related state affairs and policy goals.

Earlier, the Moon administration announced that finding new growth engines through the so-called fourth industrial revolution for the South Korean economy is one of its key policy objectives. Moon said the revolution will help create more jobs, develop cutting-edge technologies and eventually serve as a catalyst for the economy.

A total of four teams of two civilian experts will each look into the government's policy goals in areas of basic research, public technology, short-term industries and long-term industries, the Ministry of Science and ICT said.

The committee will then hold a briefing session with other related ministry officials on Dec. 19, an ICT ministry source said.

"Checking of policy goals will facilitate other goals related to the fourth industrial revolution," said Kang Keon-gi.

To facilitate the drive, the Moon administration established a "Fourth Industrial Revolution committee" chaired by the president to push forward positive change by forming a collaborative state-private sector partnership.
