President Moon Jae-in's approval rating rose this week, ending four consecutive weeks of decline, a poll showed Thursday.

In a survey conducted by Realmeter, 68.6 percent of 1,522 respondents said they approved of the president's management of state affairs, up 3.31 percentage points from a week earlier.

The weekly poll was conducted Monday through Wednesday. It had a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points and a confidence level of 95 percent.
 

The increase was partly attributed to the president's trip to the United Nations last week, where he strongly urged international efforts to rein in North Korea's evolving nuclear and missile technologies.

"Such a rebound appears to have been possible due to the security condition slowly becoming stabilized, while the controversy over the redeployment of US tactical nuclear weapons to the country also slowed following President Moon's speech at the United Nations last week," the pollster said in a press release.

Of all respondents, 25.2 percent said they did not approve of the way Moon managed state affairs, down 4.6 percentage points from a week earlier.

The ruling Democratic Party's approval rating advanced 1 percentage point to 50.8 percent, while that of the main opposition Liberty Korea Party slipped 0.4 percentage point to 16.6 percent.

The liberal People's Party scored 6.6 percent, up 0.6 percentage point from a week earlier, with the approval rating of the splinter Bareun Party slipping 0.9 percentage point on-week to 5.4 percent.

The approval rating of the progressive Justice Party also came to 5.4 percent, marking a 0.7 percentage point gain. (Yonhap)
