Oriental Brewery has launched this year’s first “Happy Library” project to improve after-school programs for children in conjunction with the Headquarters for Community Child Center, the company said Tuesday.

The project is part of the company’s social responsibility program involving the renovation of child education facilities and provision of various education kits and books.

For this year’s project, the company selected three community child centers in Seoul, Gwangju and Cheongju that were in urgent need of refurbishment last year and renovated them into libraries, the company said.

In collaboration with education company Daekyo, it is also carrying out a “Happy Library -- Book Donation” campaign to provide the libraries with 400 new books each.

The executives and staff members of Oriental Brewery, led by CEO Kim Do-hun, visited the centers to mark the opening of the renovated libraries.

The company said it will continue to expand the project to other local communities this year as part of its social outreach efforts.

“We are planning to support the sound development of children and the regional communities” the company said in a statement.
