KT Corp.'s chief executive, Hwang Chang-gyu, is expected to address challenges and opportunities facing the mobile industry when he speaks at next month's annual industry fair in Spain.

Hwang, head of South Korea's biggest telecom services firm, will make a keynote speech at the Mobile World Congress show, which will begin its five-day run on Feb. 27.

Details of Hwang's speech were not known, but he is expected to lay out the company's plans for ultra-fast fifth-generation mobile technology, the so-called Internet of Things in which any object can be connected with the Internet as well as artificial intelligence.

Hwang is among 18 chief executives who will deliver keynote speeches at the show.

The speeches "will feature CEOs from some of the world's leading operators, taking to the stage to discuss the short and long term challenges and opportunities facing the mobile industry and share insights on how the operator community in particular can continue to play a central role in supporting global economic growth and social capital," organizers of the fair said on its website.

KT plans to launch a commercial service of 5G mobile network in 2019, in what would be the world's first commercialization of the ultra-fast telecom technology.

The 5G technology aims to offer data transmission speeds about 100 times faster than the current fourth-generation wireless networks. (Yonhap)
