North Korea said Monday its 200-day work-hard drive reached a "victorious conclusion" by surpassing production goals in various areas ranging from a nuclear warhead test to a recovery from massive floods.

The central committee of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) announced the completion of the so-called 200-day campaign of loyalty, which started in June and ended last Friday, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

"The campaign is a great battle for creation of the self-development-first spirit and the great battle for creation of speed of Mallima," the KCNA said in English, referring to an imaginary horse that can run ultra distances at a very high speed.

The campaign of loyalty is North Korea's effort to mobilize its people to maximize production in a set period of time. The 200-day drive ended ahead of schedule as it was supposed to be completed on Dec. 17, the fifth anniversary of the death of former leader Kim Jong-il.

After a rare party congress concluded in May, the North kicked off the campaign of loyalty in a bid to implement the five-year economic development strategy unveiled by its leader Kim Jong-un.

But the North shifted its focus of the drive to flood recovery after the country's northeastern province was hit hard by a typhoon and heavy rains.

"A miraculous victory of converting misfortune into favorable conditions was won on the front of recovering from the damage in the northern parts of North Hamgyong Province," the KCNA said.

The report said that North Korea has produced major achievements far above its goals in various areas ranging from the defense industry to the production of electricity.

"The people in the defense industry achieved successive victories in nuclear warhead explosion test and development of Korean-style ultra-modern strategic weapons," it added.

The KCNA said that the success of the 200-day campaign set the stage for attaining the goal of the five-year economic development strategy. (Yonhap)
